This Privacy Policy explains how Mekete collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when users access the website, submit quote requests, apply as suppliers, use supplier tools, receive quotes, manage bookings or interact with Mekete.
Mekete operates in South Africa and aims to process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013.

The personal information we collect depends on how you use Mekete.
Customers and event organisers
We may collect:

- email address;
- WhatsApp or phone number;
- customer type;
- event type;
- event date;
- event location;
- guest count;
- equipment required;
- budget range;
- booking readiness;
- quote request details;
- clarification messages;
- supplier selection details;
- booking handover information;
- feedback or issue reports.
Supplier applicants and suppliers
We may collect:
- business name;
- contact person;
- email address;
- phone number;
- business/service location;
- service areas;
- equipment categories;
- product capability information;
- equipment or product evidence;
- delivery/setup capability;
- supplier application information;
- onboarding information;
- verification information;
- portfolio or reference information;
- supplier quote activity;
- lead response activity;
- booking and deposit tracking updates;
- subscription and billing information.
Platform and technical information
We may collect:
- account details;
- login information;
- device and browser information;
- usage logs;

- system activity necessary to secure and operate the platform.
3. Why we collect personal information
Mekete uses personal information to:
- create and manage accounts;
- process quote requests;
- match customer requests with suitable verified suppliers;
- allow suppliers to respond to leads and create quotes;
- manage supplier applications and verification;
- facilitate customer quote comparison;
- manage quote clarification and booking handover;
- track booking and deposit status manually;
- manage supplier subscriptions;
- send in-app notifications;
- provide support;
- prevent misuse, fraud or unauthorised access;
- improve platform quality, supplier governance and customer experience;
- comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Supplier verification and due diligence
Suppliers cannot freely operate on Mekete without approval. We may use supplier information to review supplier applications, assess product capability, verify service areas, evaluate evidence, manage supplier onboarding and monitor supplier performance.
Supplier information may affect approval, verification, supplier tier, visibility, lead access or suspension decisions.
5. Sharing of personal information
We may share personal information where necessary to operate the platform.
Examples include:
- sharing relevant customer request details with approved suppliers so they can prepare quotes;
- sharing supplier quote details with customers;
- sharing selected booking information between the customer and selected supplier;
- sharing necessary information with service providers who support hosting, authentication, payment processing for supplier subscriptions, analytics, communications or platform operations;
- sharing information where required by law, regulation, legal process or lawful authority.
Mekete does not sell personal information.
6. Payment information
At this stage, Mekete does not process customer event booking payments, supplier payouts, escrow, split payments or marketplace settlement for event bookings.
Where supplier subscription payments are available, payment processing may be handled by a third-party payment provider such as Paystack. Mekete does not store full card details unless expressly supported through a compliant third-party payment provider.
7. Marketing and communications
Mekete may send service-related notifications about quote requests, supplier responses, clarifications, bookings, supplier applications, subscription status or platform activity.
Where marketing communications are sent, users may opt out where applicable. Service and transactional messages may still be sent where necessary to operate the platform.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
Mekete may use cookies or similar technologies to operate the website, manage sessions, improve performance, remember preferences, secure the platform and understand usage patterns.
Users may manage cookies through their browser settings. Some features may not work properly if cookies are disabled.
9. Storage and security
Mekete takes reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction.
No system is completely secure. Users are responsible for keeping account credentials confidential and notifying Mekete of suspected unauthorised access.
10. Retention
Mekete keeps personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide services, manage supplier/customer relationships, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain audit records and improve platform operations.
Where information is no longer required, Mekete may delete, anonymise or securely retain it as permitted by law.
11. User rights
Subject to applicable law, users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information. Users may also object to certain processing or ask questions about how their personal information is handled.

12. Children's information
Mekete is intended for use by adults and organisations arranging event equipment. Users should not submit children's personal information unless necessary and lawful.
13. Cross-border processing
Some service providers used by Mekete may process or store information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, Mekete will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate protection of personal information.
14. Information Regulator
If you believe your personal information has been processed unlawfully, you may contact Mekete first so we can attempt to resolve the matter. You may also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Mekete may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be published on the website with a revised effective date.
